Details Are The Shit

Sometimes shit can be a good thing. When you tell someone “You’re the shit!” that’s generally a compliment. Quite a few details go into a book like this and it’s easy to think it’s just swearing a bunch of times. The swearing is like the frosting on the cake but it’s not the cake itself. I rewrote this book six times to get to the current version and the first three weren’t shitty in the least bit.

They were boring. They were long. They were drawn out and had five examples of everything instead of three.

It wasn’t better it was just longer. Longer emails don’t get read. Longer books get put down. I can’t say a 300 page version isn’t in my heart but I can say I don’t think it would be as focused and sharp. I can say that all it would have is redundant stories and browbeat the reader (even more than I already do).

If I was a better writer I could probably get this book down from 88-90 pages to 50 but after six versions this is where it’s at.

It’s not perfect but the point of the book is not to be perfect, but to do the work. Doing the work makes for better work. Perfection is bullshit but you can get better nearly every time you iterate.

I hope you enjoy the book. If you don’t at least it was cheap and didn’t suck up a lot of your life.

You’re welcome.
